Now if only they would fire Aaron Gordon (can’t trust people with double A’s in their names) from Jalopnik and stick to cars or send him back to Jezebel.

as someone else posted a couple of days ago:

1) Chrome browser

2) right click on tab with Oppo site open

3) select “mute site”

This will -not- stop autoplay ads from auto-starting, but it will MUTE them (any any other videos on the page, so if you want to watch a u-tube embed, you will need to un- mute the tab...)

It’s not a perfect solution (ads still play, eating bandwidth and memory) but it’s a whole lot better (no blaring music or mono tone rambling in the background while you scroll to the comments section)

Deadspin sticking to sports? I’d be ok with that. A mandate to stay on-topic doesn’t sound all that unreasonable when you already have a host of various blogs dedicated to so many topics.

I’m not saying that the writers should only talk about sports; I’m saying that whatever they do write about, should get published where interested readers can expect to find it. If somebody wants to write about the new Star Wars trailer, then it shouldn’t be published to, say, Lifehacker. That’s not what people come to Lifehacker for, and readers will be looking for posts like that on io9 and A.V. Club. That’s how you find your target audience .

And it’s exactly as easy as it sounds. If somebody wants to write an article about cars, all Patrick George needs to do is click a button to grant that person authorship on Jalopnik. Kinja makes it so simple; I don’t understand why they don’t take advantage of this.

I despise Autoplay as much as anyone, but who exactly do they think they’re working for? If they think the curent owners are going to allow them to begin a mutiny and invite the end users to join in, all because they disagree with a corporate money-making decision, they’re probably in for a surprise. Denton has left the building and their new keepers are not amused by their antics.

Honestly kinda glad the people upstairs writing the paychecks are finally telling their employees to stay on topic. Deadspin should stick to sports, Giz to tech, Jalopnik to cars. The constant injection of politicized opinion to every blog and subblog wore thin long ago.

Killing splinter should have been a pretty good hint that the views expressed by the writers don’t necessarily reflect the opinions of the owners or shareholders. Writers would be well advised to stay in their lane and write about the topics they’re being paid to write about , lest they #resist themselves right into the unemployment office.

But seriously, seriously, Great Hill. Listen. Your userbase and staff all despise  the Autoplay videos. Mute them at a minimum. It’s a fair compromise.

I saw that.  Haven't tried it yet, mainly because the majority of users access the Kinjaverse via mobile like me.

If it were really that simple, they would have already done this and done it years ago.

It IS that simple. I remember Patrick “flipping that switch” when I wrote that one post for Jalopnik. I was super- stoked to screenshot this:

Kinja'd!!!

After publishing, he simply turned my authorship privileges back off again ( there was no notification for that, though).
